Applicability
For defining engine control requirements and factory functions to retain before selecting an ECU.
List the required functions
Start with injection, ignition, idle control, fans and pumps. Note what the factory ECU will still handle, and keep possible future additions separate from the functions needed now.
Assign a channel to each device
For each device, list the signal type, ECU input or output, power supply and wiring reference. Check what the pin can actually do: an unused pin may not provide the driver the device needs.
Check shared pins
Use the hardware manual to check shared channels, driver types and trigger support. Include the dashboard, transmission and immobilizer when they still depend on the factory ECU.
Keep one wiring record
Keep the exact model, hardware revision, signal types, pin assignments and software version in one record. Mark verified results and conditions still awaiting confirmation before consulting the wiring or diagnostic information for that model.
