Applicability
PCLink: match the ECU generation and keep a backup
Identify the hardware generation
G4+ and G4X use separate PCLink packages. Read the complete ECU label and firmware information before selecting a release; a similar connector does not establish software compatibility.
Software, driver and Windows version
Choose the PCLink release for the ECU generation, then check firmware compatibility, the required drivers and the supported operating-system architecture.
Save the current map
Before changing software or firmware, save the current configuration and record the versions. Agree a recovery plan with the installer in case the new connection or update cannot be completed.
What to include in a support request
Send the ECU generation, PCLink and firmware versions, operating system, interface hardware and exact error message. Device detection and error details help distinguish a cable problem from a driver or software problem.
Windows architecture and genuine hardware
PCLink requires Windows and does not support Windows ARM. G4X and G4+ use different software branches; match generation and software before connection or firmware work.
