Applicability

For checking pressure reference, range and output before selecting and calibrating a MAP sensor.

Absolute or gauge pressure?

State whether the required range is absolute pressure or boost above ambient. Use the same units on the sensor specification, ECU settings and parts request.

Use the actual calibration curve

Find the part number and manufacturer’s calibration data. For a voltage-output sensor, the ECU needs the corresponding voltage-to-pressure curve; the pressure rating alone is not a calibration.

Port, pinout and supply

Read the data sheet for the pressure port, mounting, connector pins and supply. Sensors in similar housings can have different electrical requirements.

Check readings before running under load

Give the installer the sensor label, calibration sheet, ECU model and intended range. Check the initial readings before using the setup under load.
